Last week the Cireson team attended the System Center Universe conference. We love that conference because it is really a “by the community, for the community” type of event. I was one of the presenters during the conference and spoke on the topic of automating IT processes using System Center Service Manager (SCSM) and the new Service Management Automation (SMA) which is built on PowerShell workflows. The recording of that session should be available soon on the SystemCenterUniverse.com site.
SMA is a new component of the System Center suite. It’s purpose is similar to that of Orchestrator – to automate processes using composable workflows (aka “runbooks”). Integrating it with SCSM provides for a comprehensive solution marrying the people/process with the automation. You get approvals, traceability, manual actions interspersed with automation or full automation. You get automated incident remediation and diagnostics. You get automated service request fulfillment. You get automated change and release deployment. The possibilities are literally endless.
I didn’t have a lot of time on the System Center Universe stage to talk about Cireson’s SMA Connector or the soon-to-be-released Self-Service Portal/Analyst Portal. I briefly showed them during the demo portion, but I had a lot of requests afterwards for more details. To that end, I’ve created a detailed demo video here that goes much deeper and provides more information.
